Harry Maguire sends message to Manchester United fans after Mykonos incident

Harry Maguire is fully focussed on the season with Manchester United and England following a turbulent week after an incident in Greece.

The United captain was arrested and then found guilty of charges including resisting arrest, aggravated assault and bribery after a disturbance on the Greek island, though after being sentenced his legal team lodged an appeal on Wednesday, overturning the conviction in accordance with Greek law.

Maguire spoke for the first time on the incident on Thursday, reiterating his belief that he is innocent of all charges and accepted Gareth Southgate's decision to withdraw him from the England squad.

On Friday, the defender posted on Twitter for the first time since the incident, thanking United supporters for backing him during a difficult week.

"Thanks for everyone’s support over the last week," he said. "I’m pleased to have had my say and share the true version of events.

"Looking forward to getting on with life now and the season ahead with Manchester United and England."

United will begin their preparations for the new Premier League season next week with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad due back at the Carrington training complex on September 2.

The Reds start the new campaign with a home clash against Crystal Palace on the weekend of September 19 after their opening day fixture against Burnley was postponed.

United were granted permission by the Premier League to start their season later than most due to the participation in the Europa League finals in August.
