Harry Maguire's prediction came true during Manchester United win vs Chelsea

Harry Maguire predicted he would score from a corner during Manchester United's win against Chelsea on Monday night.

Maguire netted United's second goal in their 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge, firing a bullet header past Willy Caballero.

Taking to Twitter after the match, Maguire's brother, Chesterfield player Laurence Maguire, revealed an iMessage exchange between the pair that shows Maguire predicted he would score from an in-swinging corner.

United's win over Chelsea moves them up to seventh place in the Premier League table, three points off Chelsea and trailing Spurs and Sheffield United by two points and one point respectively.

Maguire escaped a possible red card in the first half after an incident involving Michy Batshuayi.

Slow-mo replays appeared to show Maguire kicking out at Batshuayi after a challenge close to the dug-out.

The incident was checked for a possible red card by the video assistant referee but Anthony Taylor's on-field decision was upheld and United's captain was of the view that common sense prevailed.

Maguire was adamant the correct decision was made but Frank Lampard had a contrasting view.

"Harry Maguire should have been sent off, that's clear, and that obviously changes the game," the Chelsea manager said.

Lampard also criticised the video assistant referee's decision to chalk off a Kurt Zouma goal for a foul on Brandon Williams by Cesar Azpilicueta in the build-up.

"Azpilicueta gets shoved so the goal should stand," Lampard said. "Giroud (who also had a goal ruled out by the VAR) was a toenail offside and that one I understand. That's the rule now."
