Harry Maguire demanded Manchester United team-mates step things up after they took the lead against Leicester City on Boxing Day.
The Red Devils took the lead at the King Power Stadium with the ball falling to Marcus Rashford in the box for him to slot beyond Kasper Schmeichel.
Despite taking the lead in the 23rd minute, United were given a tough time against the Foxes and their relentless press in the early stages.
As players celebrated Rashford's goal in earshot of the BT Sport pundits, he was heard sending a demanding message to his team-mates to increase their standards and improve.
Robbie Savage told BT Sport at half-time: “When they were celebrating he (Maguire) ran over and said, 'let’s lift it now, let’s lift it’, even though they’d gone 1-0 up.
“I think he knew as captain they weren’t performing as they should be.”
Despite Maguire's message, Leicester equalised just eight minutes later as Harvey Barnes fired a powerful strike into the bottom corner from outside the box.
The goal came after a lacklustre clearance from Maguire fell to Bruno Fernandes, who gave the ball away.
United legend Paul Scholes was then furious with Scott McTominay and Eric Bailly for their failure to close down Barnes and prevent his shot.
Scholes told BT Sport: "I think McTominay is taking social distancing a bit too literally there.
“He’s really got to stop the shot, hasn’t he? We know the ability Harvey Barnes has got, he’s shown that.
“Bailly as well should be getting out there to stop the shot. David de Gea is a little bit unsighted so probably unfair to blame him.”
