Harry Maguire's defiant message following England's painful Euro 2020 defeat

Harry Maguire has vowed to help England rise once again as the dust continues to settle on last night's cruel penalty shootout defeat in the Euro 2020 final.

It's been a painstaking few months for the Manchester United captain, who was forced to watch from the bench with an ankle ligament injury as the Red Devils suffered the same fate in their Europa League showpiece with Villarreal.

It was an injury which also threatened his involvement at Euro 2020 this summer, but the United centre-back recovered sufficiently enough to play a key role in England's charge to a second major international final in their history.

The 28-year-old played the entire 120 minutes against Italy at Wembley on Sunday night and slammed home their second spotkick of the decisive shootout.

That wasn't enough for victory as England's following three attempts were missed by Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka, handing Italy their second ever European Championship.

It was a cruel end to a fantastic summer for England, who may never get a better chance to bring home silverware in front of their fans.

The night started out so well, too, as United left-back Luke Shaw scored his first international goal with a half-volley of the highest quality, but Leonardo Bonucci equalised in the second-half to take it to extra-time

Like many of his international teammates, Maguire has taken to social media to express his feelings in the aftermath of the defeat.

Addressing his 2.5 million followers on Instagram, Maguire said: "Win together - lose together. We'll be back."
