Harry Maguire price tag 'putting Man City off any deal' and more transfer gossip

Man City have been 'put off by Leicester's £90m price tag' for defender Harry Maguire, according to reports.

City are in the market for a new centre-back this summer following the departure of captain Vincent Kompany for Anderlecht and the uncertainty surrounding the future of Nicolas Otamendi.

Pep Guardiola's side has been linked with Ajax teenage sensation Matthijs de Ligt but it now appears that Leicester's Maguire is the number one target, though the asking price may be a stumbling block as well as competition from neighbours Manchester United.

The Foxes are under no pressure to sell their prized asset after the England hero signed a new contract until 2023 following his great performance in the 2018 World Cup.

Leicester are also notoriously stubborn negotiators, as City discovered in their pursuit of Riyad Mahrez, which resulted in the club shelling out a record breaking £60m fee to land their man.

Now, according to the Daily Mail, Leicester's 'valuation of Maguire has put a hold on the defender's proposed transfer to City.'

It's reported that Leicester want '£90m' for the 26-year-old and 'unless the fee comes down it appears Maguire will not be moving to the Etihad.'

Elsewhere, Kyle Walker is 'set to sign a two-year contract extension' at City, according to reports.

The England international still has three years remaining on his current contract but City have moved to secure a player who has been integral to Guardiola's team.

Goal reports that 'City floated the idea of a contract extension towards the end of last season' and that talks have been 'concluded swiftly.'

The new contract comes despite City's pursuit of Juventus right-back Joao Cancelo, who would be a direct competitor for Walker's position.

It's claimed that 'City want to sign Cancelo as a replacement for Danilo' should the Brazilian leave this summer.
