Harry Maguire praises three Manchester United players following Newcastle draw

Club captain Harry Maguire has heaped praise on David De Gea, Jadon Sancho and Edinson Cavani for the roles they played in Manchester United's 1-1 draw against Newcastle United on Monday evening.

Having fallen behind to Allan Saint-Maximin's excellent effort inside less than ten minutes, United got themselves back on level terms at St James' Park with 71 minutes on the clock, with substitute Cavani netting his second goal of the season from close quarters.

Despite getting themselves back level, United, in truth, were second best throughout the contest, with Eddie Howe's side producing an excellent performance that was worthy of maximum points.

United, following the introductions of Sancho and Cavani at half time, were marginally better in the second half, but not by much, with Newcastle continuing to carry the greater threat.

Nevertheless, Maguire was impressed by the impact Sancho and Cavani made, especially the latter.

"He's come on and made a big impact and I think you've seen in the first 30 minutes of the second half especially, it was probably our best spell in the game," Maguire told United's club website.

"Credit to them [Sancho and Cavani] for making that change in tempo and intensity."

Although Sancho and Cavani did slightly increase United's attacking output in the second half, with them certainly giving the Newcastle defence far more to think about than they did in the first half, they still had to call upon De Gea to keep them out of jail.

The Spaniard, who has been a revelation between the sticks this season, produced a string of saves, with his 87th minute stop to deny Newcastle substitute Miguel Almiron the pick of the bunch.

Lauding the Spaniard, Maguire added: "David's on great form at the minute. In big moments, it always seems to be, late on in games, that he's always there to produce for us."
