Harry Maguire plays in Leicester friendly amid Manchester United and Man City transfer interest

Harry Maguire played the entirety of the second half in Leicester City's opening friendly of pre-season against Scunthorpe United, amid transfer interest from Manchester United and Man City.

It was initially thought that Maguire wouldn't be involved in the game after the centre-back fell ill, but he recovered in time to be involved.

Maguire came on as a substitute at half-time after manager Brendan Rodgers made sweeping changes and was serenaded by the travelling support, who sang 'we want you to stay.'

Maguire kept a clean sheet in his second half display and helped his side to a 1-0 victory, courtesy of a debut goal by Ayoze Perez.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to add the centre-back to his squad this summer to be the commanding presence in an often rudderless back-line, one which conceded 10 goals in the final five games of the season.

With Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw having secured their place and Aaron Wan-Bissaka being purchased for £45million, plus add ons, to provide a long-term solution for the right-back slot, Maguire could be the final piece of the jigsaw for the defence.

Though getting him won't be easy, The Foxes are notoriously tough negotiators as they proved with neighbours City's pursuit of Riyad Mahrez and have already rejected a bid of £70million.

It's understood that it would take a record-breaking fee for a defender, currently set at £75million by Liverpool's purchase of Virgil van Dijk, to persuade Leicester to part ways with their prized asset.

City are also monitoring the defender as they search for a replacement for Vincent Kompany but are not expected to be willing to pay Leicester's asking price.
