Harry Maguire makes Manchester United vow as Premier League season ends with Wolves win

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has vowed his team will improve next season as they bid to win the Premier League.

United rounded off their domestic campaign with a 2-1 victory over Wolves, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer heavily rotating his team ahead of the Europa League final.

With second place already cemented, Solskjaer handed several fringe and young players opportunities to impress, with Anthony Elanga and Juan Mata scoring the goals, whilst Amad was handed another start.

It means United end the season on 74 points, 12 behind champions Manchester City, though a much-improved effort after finishing fourth last season.

After rounding off the season, Maguire, who remains injured and in a race to beat fit for the final in Gdansk, sent a message to his teammates urging them to improve for next year.

"Great way to finish the @premierleague campaign," he tweeted.

"Well done lads. Another step forward this year but we don’t settle for this, next year we must improve again. Looking forward to Wednesday #MUFC."

Manchester United are still hopeful their captain will be fit for the match against Villarreal, though Solskjaer conceded his chances are getting slimmer.

"He's walking but it's a long way from walking to running, to be honest," Solskjaer said before the Wolves match.

"I don't think we'll see him Gdansk, no. But I'm going to give him until Tuesday night, last training session, to see if he can be out there. Steadily but surely he's improving. But ligaments take time to heal.

"He's a very important person in the dressing room and a leader. Before fans came in you all heard him from the stands, he does still want the team to do well, he's organising even from the stands, which has been easy because it's been so quiet.

"He'll come, he'll be in the dressing room, he'll make sure everyone's ready for the final."
