Harry Maguire hands Manchester United and Man City transfer setback amid speculation

Harry Maguire has handed Manchester United and Man City a setback over any move by indicating he wants to play for Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City next season.

The England international continues to be linked with a move to Manchester in the coming months, with both sides believed to be in the market for a new central defensive option.

United have been searching for a new top-class central defender since last summer, while City will likely need to recruit another new face to compensate for the departure of club captain Vincent Kompany.

Following an impressive World Cup last year Maguire has continued with his development and established himself as one of the top defenders in Premier League football.

Naturally his displays have drawn speculation of a big summer move, however the 26-year-old insists he is fully focused on challenging for European football with Leicester next season.

"Leicester's an exciting club to be at − Brendan has really improved the team in the recent months, and he's someone we're looking forward to working with," Maguire told the BBC. "I'm sure he will take the club forward.

"He's definitely got his own aspects in the game, and I'm sure he will improve us.

"After a good pre-season, I'm sure he's the man that can help us break into those European spaces."
