Harry Maguire given additional ban after red card at Bournemouth

  • Harry Maguire has received an additional one-match ban and a £30,000 fine for swearing at a fourth official after being sent off in a match against Bournemouth last month.
  • The Manchester United defender, who served a ban as Manchester United lost 2-1 to Leeds on Monday, admitted an FA misconduct charge, though he denied directly insulting the official, stating he said “it is a f***ing joke” out of frustration.
  • His suspension leaves manager Michael Carrick with a significant shortage of centre-backs for Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Chelsea.
  • Lisandro Martinez is also suspended after receiving a red card in Monday’s loss to Leeds, and Matthijs de Ligt remains out due to a back injury.
  • Consequently, only 19-year-old Ayden Heaven and 20-year-old Leny Yoro are available as specialist central defenders for the crucial match.
