Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has revealed his excitement at playing alongside Raphael Varane this season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side completed a £41m move for the French World Cup winner this summer to bring him to Old Trafford from Real Madrid and bolster their defence.
United went 10 games without a clean sheet before Varane made his debut against Wolves before the international break, where the 28-year-old turned in an excellent display to help his new side claim a 1-0 win in the Premier League.
He is expected to take the first-team starting spot from Victor Lindelof to play alongside Maguire on a more regular basis and, while speaking to ' UMM ' YouTube channel, the skipper revealed that he is excited to play alongside the four-time Champions League winner and believes they can both learn from each other.
“Obviously it’s really exciting to get him at the club and to work alongside him," Maguire said.
"I think him coming in will bolster the defensive unit. We can learn off each other, we can push each other and that’s what we want for the club. We want to keep more clean sheets and the more competition the better."
Varane and Maguire are currently away with their respective international sides for World Cup qualifying, but should be reunited in the heart of the United defence this weekend when they host Newcastle at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
