Harry Maguire details state of Man Utd dressing room at half-time before Southampton comeback

Harry Maguire maintains Manchester United knew they could still win the game even at 2-0 down at half-time.

The Red Devils mounted an excellent comeback to win 3-2 at Southampton with Edinson Cavani heading the winner in stoppage time.

But they gave themselves a mountain to climb as goals from Jan Bednarek and James Ward-Prowse put the Saints ahead.

Bruno Fernandes gave United hope early in the second-half before Cavani scored twice.

And Maguire feels as if they were playing the better football and the win was theirs should they take their chances.

"We have created numerous amounts of chances. We felt we were hard done by with the scoreline at half time," he told Sky Sports.

"We gave them two bad goals really. We knew we had to keep going. The next goal was crucial.

"We had that belief and confidence. Thankfully Edinson put it in the back of the net.

"It's strange because 2-0 down at half time we felt like we were still in the game. We knew we were causing problems.

"In the first half we had really good chances. We knew we had to improve, play with more intensity and take our chances.

"When it got to 2-2 it felt like only one team would win the game.

"His movement is excellent in the box. It's the best I've played in during training. He is on the move constantly.

"We know what he has got and can bring to this club. It's important he kicks on now because he's a top, top player."

Cavani came on at half-time and scored for the second successive away game having notched at Everton.

And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer always felt his side could get back into the contest despite their deficit at the interval.

He told Match of the Day: "I was quite calm [at half time]. It's about not conceding another goal and getting the next one.

"There was always going to be another one in that game. We must have had five or six clear-cut chances in the game today so it was about taking them when we got the chance. It worked."
