Harry Maguire delivers Man Utd rallying call with Premier League title claim

Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire believes his side have the ability to challenge for major honours in the next few years.

After a shaky start to the season United improved massively in the weeks before football was suspended, and were on a run of 11 consecutive games unbeaten.

Maguire - who was made captain by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in January after Ashley Young joined Inter Milan - thinks the team are heading in the right direction, and should not be content to simply challenge for a Champions League place in the future.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the 27-year-old said: "I think you can see from the start of the season we look a lot more like a team and we can probably see where we want to go and where we want to head.

"I knew when I first came to the club that Ole said to me loads and loads that it’s a building process, but we will get to where we want to be.

"I can see where we’re heading and the style that he wants to implement on our team.

"There’s still plenty of aspects where we need to improve to get to the top where we want to be.

"We don’t want to be challenging for Champions League spots, we want to be challenging for titles.

"We know there’s still a lot of improvement to get there but we feel like we’re on the right track and I’m sure eventually we will get there."

Maguire has been a leader on and off the pitch for United, and recently sent a video message to all the staff at the club to thank them for their hard work amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

He also arranged for food parcels packed with everyday essentials to be donated to people aged 70 or over in his hometown of Mossley in South Yorkshire.
