Harry Maguire charged with assaulting a police officer as he prepares to go on trial

England star Harry Maguire is due to go on trial on Tuesday charged with assaulting a police officer.

Greek court documents show the Manchester United defender is also facing allegations of attempted bribery.

His older brother Joe, 28, a former player at non league club Gainsborough Trinity, and a third man Christopher Sharman, 29, have also been charged in relation to a brawl in Mykonos Old Town last Friday.

All three are charged with assault and assault against a police officer.

The Maguire brothers are further charged with attempted bribery.

Harry Maguire and Sharman are also charged with verbal assault.

All three men, who are being represented by Greek lawyer Alexandros Anagnostakis, have denied the allegations.

Harry Maguire flew back to the UK over the weekend and will not be at the hearing on the island of Syros, which is due to start at 10am UK time.

Harry's father Alan arrived at the court building an hour before the hearing was due to start.

It was feared Tuesday's proceedings could be postponed because of an outbreak of Covid-19 at the island’s City Hall, where the court is based, and where two workers tested positive for the virus.

But court officials are confident the hearing will start, although it is possible it will be adjourned to a future date.

The 27-year-old will also find out on the same day as the hearing whether he has kept his place in Gareth Southgate's England squad.

Southgate is set to name his squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches with Iceland and Denmark next month.
