Harry Maguire breaks silence on Manchester United's defeat to Man City

Harry Maguire has vowed to 'put things right' after Manchester United's defeat in the Manchester derby on Saturday.

United went one goal down within 10 minutes against Manchester City when Eric Bailly turned Joao Cancelo's searching cross into his own goal and the visitors' lead was doubled on the stroke of half-time when Bernardo Silva found the back of the net.

Bernardo took advantage of some calamitous and amateurish defending from Maguire to nip in at the back post to make it 2-0.

Luke Shaw also received criticism for his role alongside Maguire in conceding the strike that put the game beyond United's reach.

The pair have been poor in recent weeks and Maguire took to social media to apologise for the result after the game.

"As a group of players we are going through a tough period," Maguire wrote on social media.

"We know and accept this is nowhere near good enough. We feel your frustration and disappointment.

"We are doing everything we can to put things right and we will put things right. Thanks for your support."

Maguire is set to play for England during the international break in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, with United's next game after the break being away at Watford on November 20th.
