Harry Maguire has revealed that he could have 'signed elsewhere' in the summer he joined Manchester United.
Maguire, 28, signed for United in August 2019 for a fee of £80m, which made him the most expensive defender of all time.
The centre-back was soon named as club captain by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, however, Maguire is yet to lead United to silverware at Old Trafford and there has been intense scrutiny over his credentials to captain the Reds following poor results this season.
Maguire has reflected on why he wanted to join United, revealing that he actually had other transfer offers before the move.
“I came here to win titles," Maguire told United's in-house media.
"I could have signed elsewhere but I wanted to be at United and help get them back to the winning ways that the club had in the Sir Alex era. It will come if we all stay together. I grew up idolising the likes of Wayne, Rio and Vidic.
"I want to repeat what they achieved. I’m privileged to be captain.
"I’ve got a responsibility to lead the players and turn things around.”
