Harry Maguire admits Manchester United players are ‘letting’ fans ‘down’ after nightmare season

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has admitted the team are letting supporters down this season.

Despite an ambitious summer recruitment drive to have seen Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo join a side who finished second in the Premier League last season, United have struggled.

Currently sitting seventh in the table and struggling to get to grips with life under new Ralf Rangnick, there have been widespread reports suggesting all is not well behind the scenes.

Maguire, who has attracted his fair share of criticism since joining the club in the summer of 2019, conceded that things had simply not been good enough.

Asked if it felt like the world was against the United players, Maguire told the club’s official website: “For sure. I think it’s always been like that for United players and we have to deal with it.

“The most important thing for us is the fans, and we are letting them down. But the support at Old Trafford and at away games is unbelievable still.”
