Harry Maguire a Man Utd 'leader' and Marcus Rashford 'perfect' vs Chelsea - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reacts

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was full of praise for Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford as the Manchester United pair starred at opposite ends of the pitch in a crushing 4-0 win over Chelsea.

Maguire made his United debut in Sunday's Premier League clash at Old Trafford, with the £80million defender looking assured at the back despite playing no pre-season games for the Red Devils due to the prolonged nature of his transfer from Leicester City.

Rashford, meanwhile, flourished in a role on the left-hand side of attack, winning and scoring a penalty to hand United a 1-0 lead in the first half before netting the third goal of the afternoon after breaking through the centre of Chelsea's defence onto a Paul Pogba through-ball.

Goals from Anthony Martial and debutant Daniel James capped a perfect result for Solskjaer, though the 4-0 scoreline somewhat flattered United given Chelsea's strong first-half performance.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Solskjaer said: "(Maguire) did exactly what we signed him for.

"His presence in both boxes, his calmness and composure on the ball and he's a leader."

On Rashford, Solskjaer added: "I have to say Marcus played that left-hand side striker role to perfection more or less today.

"Once in a while he's caught out of position defensively, but that means we can counter-attack and his second goal was absolutely outstanding.

"That's where we want him, running in behind, we don't want him out on the touchline crossing the ball."

Solskjaer also praised his players' fitness, adding: "The fitter you are the more you can do, it's as simple as that. The boys have been working hard and this is just the start."
