Harry Kane to undergo ankle scan after leaving pitch early during England's 6-2 win over Iran

Harry Kane is set to have a scan on his right ankle ahead of England's second game of their World Cup campaign against the United States on Friday, the PA news agency understands.

The England captain dropped to the floor gripping his right foot in pain during his side's impressive 6-2 victory over Iran in their opening World Cup game at the Khalifa International Stadium on Monday.

After assisting Bukayo Saka's first goal, Kane had England supporters concerned as he went down early in the second half after a poor challenge from Iran centre-back Morteza Pouraliganji. Reassuringly he set up Marcus Rashford's goal minutes later but was ultimately replaced in the 75th minute by Callum Wilson, leaving the pitch with a slight limp and some strapping around his right ankle.

The Football Association remained quiet on Kane's fitness on Tuesday (November 22), but the Tottenham Hotspur striker is understood to be having a scan ahead of Friday's clash with the USA.

England manager Gareth Southgate appeared unconcerned regarding his the 2018 Golden Boot winner's health in his post-game press conference: “I think Harry’s fine. I mean, it obviously looked a bad tackle but he carried on in the game and we took him off, really, because we felt it was a moment we could do that.”
