Harry Kane: Thomas Tuchel reveals plan for fit-again striker as England brace for Latvia clash

Thomas Tuchel has revealed Harry Kane should be able to play “all 90 minutes” in England’s World Cup qualifier against Latvia on Tuesday.

Kane took part in training on Monday and was part of the 22-man squad that flew to the Latvian capital of Riga for the match.

That is despite sitting out of Thursday’s 3-0 friendly win over Wales at Wembley due to a kick to the ankle he suffered playing for Bayern Munich against Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend.

But Kane has since recovered and is the only recognised striker in Tuchel’s squad after Ollie Watkins returned to Aston Villa on Monday having failed to recover from a knock he picked up in the Wales game. Watkins scored in the first half but was taken off at half-time after colliding with the goalpost.

“Very easy with Harry,” Tuchel said. “He can play. He’s good. We did the right thing.

“He was top in training and is ready to go. I don’t see why he should not be able to play all 90 minutes. The pause was short for him. He played all matches before for Bayern Munich, so I don’t see any obstacles there.

“Ollie left camp, unfortunately. It was too painful. He could not train with us. He is in treatment with his club, and he tries to get ready for the weekend. Everyone else is with us and available.”

Tuchel added: “It’s on us to take some choices. I don’t think we can go wrong with the choices, but the question will be: how do we manage some minutes?

“We need a strong team and a strong performance to win away in a World Cup qualifier.”

England will qualify for the World Cup next summer if they win in Latvia, where they have never played before at senior level.
