Harry Kane thanks Jose Mourinho after Tottenham sacking: ‘A pleasure to have worked together’

Harry Kane has publicly thanked sacked Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho, saying it was a “pleasure” to work with the Portuguese.

With the football world still reeling from the announcement regarding a new European Super League, Mourinho was dismissed by Spurs earlier on Monday after only 17 months in charge.

The decision came just six days before Tottenham will attempt to finally end their 13-year trophy drought in the Carabao Cup Final against Manchester City at Wembley, with academy coach and former midfielder Ryan Mason and head of academy coaching Chris Powell placed in temporary charge of first-team affairs ahead of Wednesday’s visit of Southampton.

Reacting to Mourinho’s departure on social media, England captain Kane posted a picture of the duo high-fiving alongside the message: “Thank you for everything Boss.

“A pleasure to have worked together. I wish you all the best for your next chapter.”

Mourinho was initially appointed by Spurs in November 2019 following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino and guided the club to a sixth-placed finish in a Covid-19-affected first season at the helm.

He leaves with Tottenham - one of the 12 clubs currently receiving staunch criticism for their role in the Super League plans - sitting seventh in the Premier League and five points adrift of the top four with only six games left to play this term.

Mourinho was also unable to prevent the club from suffering a humiliating Europa League exit at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb last month, with his team letting slip a 2-0 first-leg lead in the last-16 second-leg tie in Croatia.
