Harry Kane tells of ‘hurtful’ online abuse after praising his wife for her hypnobirth labour

Harry Kane revealed how he received “hurtful” abuse on social media after he posted about the birth of his second child.

His wife Katie chose not to have pain relief for the delivery of their daughter Vivienne in 2018 and was helped by techniques such as hypnobirthing.

He said in an interview with ES Magazine: “She was a lot less scared than the first time and she had lots of tips to deal with it, breathing tips to stay calm and she did it with no drugs. I posted about how proud I was of her and that’s when the abuse came — like I was saying every woman should have their babies like this.

“I wasn’t saying anything except how amazing she was. It’s just weird that people can have these opinions about such a personal thing.”

The couple had their third child, a son called Louis, in December last year. Their eldest child, daughter Ivy, is four.

The England captain urged social media platforms to do more to stop trolls hiding behind their online handles.

He said: “It is too easy for people to go on there, give people a load of abuse then carry on as if that was normal. They would not say it if they saw us in the street. [Social media firms] need to find a way of people having to identify themselves when they sign up. There has to be more accountability, more responsibility.

“As the player, the person getting the abuse, I don’t even look at it. But there are times I might post something and for sure my wife or my brother might take a look at the responses, and it can be hurtful.”
