Harry Kane shares why he gives Everton's Jordan Pickford stick ahead of England clash with Germany

Harry Kane has backed Jordan Pickford to be the hero if England require a penalty shootout to progress in Euro 2020 against Germany on Tuesday night.

The Three Lions have a notoriously bad record both against the Germans and from the penalty spot, though they have managed to reverse such fortunes under Gareth Southgate in recent years, with the Everton goalkeeper playing a key role in victories over Colombia and Switzerland.

And when lifting the lid on England’s penalty preparations, the England captain revealed he still teases Pickford for not being able to deny him from the spot, but is confident he could make the difference against Germany.

“Jordan’s great, I think I’ve had one penalty against him in my career and I managed to score that one when he was back at Sunderland,” Kane told reporters.

“So I still give him a bit of stick for that every now and then!

“Penalties are something I practice throughout the season a lot. I wouldn’t say I have done a load more than what I normally do since I’ve been away with England.

“Obviously we have three keepers here with the squad so they’re always chopping and changing when the lads are practising.

“Jordan’s brilliant and it’s great to have him. All the training he does and the confidence he’s taken from the last couple of penalty shootouts we’ve had with England, whenever that’s called upon, hopefully he’ll stand up like he has done for England in the past.”
