Harry Kane sent Alan Shearer warning amid continued speculation over his Tottenham future

Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane has been warned not to replicate the decision Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer made over his future.

The England captain is the subject of continued speculation over a potential move to Manchester City as uncertainty grows over his future in North London.

Kane came through the ranks at Tottenham to establish himself as England captain and has Shearer's longstanding top Premier League goalscorer record in his sights.

The pair have long been compared to one another, in that both men captained their countries while playing for their boyhood clubs.

Shearer, of course, joined Newcastle in 1996 after famously turning down Manchester United.

'Big Al' went on to become the Magpies' record goalscorer but he failed to win any major trophies during his 10-year spell with the club.

Kane, 28, has won numerous individual honours for his goalscoring exploits but is yet to win a major trophy during his club career.

Manchester City have dominated the domestic landscape during Kane's career and are keen to bring the forward to the North West this summer.

And former Newcastle forward Michael Bridges has warned Kane not to make the same decision as Shearer in staying with his boyhood club.

"I know Harry Kane is a massive admirer of Alan Shearer and I know Alan Shearer is a huge admirer of Harry Kane," Bridges told Optus Sport's GegenPod.

"They are goalscorers and very similar all-rounders.

"If there is any advice you can pass on, and his goalscoring record is frightening, but if you look at Alan Shearer's trophy cabinet and that move where he could have gone to Manchester United but went to Newcastle to be a club legend, that trophy cabinet wasn't what he wanted it to be.

"I think Harry Kane will recognise that and that is why he will be trying to force a move because if he goes to Manchester City, he is going to have a trophy cabinet and it could put him on that platform where there are Ballon d'Or awards."
