Harry Kane's wife told failed Man City transfer is "lucky escape" by Riyad Mahrez's ex-wife

Ex-wife of Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez Rita Johal has told Harry Kane's wife that the striker's failed move to the Etihad could prove to be a "lucky escape" for their personal life.

Johal has cited Mahrez's move to City as the reason their marriage broke down and claimed the Algerian international found the pressure of playing for a team of that stature difficult at times.

Mahrez has enjoyed three stellar years at the Etihad after making the switch from Leicester City in 2018 in a deal that cost Pep Guardiola's side £60m.

That figure is less than half of what was being asked of City to muster up if they wanted Kane, with Tottenham chief Daniel Levy reportedly demanding as much as £160m for last season's leading marksman.

After a fee could not be agreed between the two sides, Kane took to twitter to publicly confirm he would be staying in north London, writing: "It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I've had in the last few weeks.

"I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100% focused on helping the team achieve success."

The failed move may be welcome news to Kane's family according to Johal, who told The Sun : "I can't comment on other people's lives but moving there changed my husband, Harry Kane's wife (Katie Goodland) probably had a lucky escape. Others should be careful.

"Riyad let fame go to his head. He changed when he went to Manchester City. The Riyad I met is a different person to the one he is now. He parties, he acts like a flash footballer.

"I don't hate him, that's a strong word, but I am shocked and saddened by what he has done. He suddenly left me, blaming the pressures of playing at Manchester City. Now he spends all his time jetting around the place on holiday without a care in the world."

Johal met Mahrez in 2014, tying the knot just four month later and going on to have one daughter together.

She went on to claim: "A footballer’s career is short-lived. They should remain grounded and loyal to those they care for, even when they have moved up to a bigger club, because when it’s all over they will realise who’s truly there."

Mahrez is now engaged to social media influencer Taylor Ward, who is coincidentally the daughter of Ashley Ward, a former City footballer.
