Harry Kane's surprise claim about England hat-trick vs Montenegro

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane continues to move up the charts of all time England goalscorers, so much so that there is just five players who have scored more goals while wearing an England shirt.

The Three Lions captain added three to his tally in the first half of the 7-0 European qualification win over Montenegro at Wembley on Thursday night. It was a win that ensured that Gareth Southgate's men would be competing in the European Championships next summer.

However, despite taking the match ball home with him, Kane had another thing on his mind.

“I had a chance in the second half and the keeper saved it just before I came off," he told the Mirror .

“That is the one I will probably think about more than anything.”

The hat-trick came in England's 1000th game, which was celebrated during the game at Wembley, and Southgate's team, led by Kane put on an fitting show.

"It was a special night and a big occasion for our nation," Kane added.

“I was itching to get on and score and the boys put a few on a plate for me and I was able to put them away.

“I am always excited to put on a shirt. With the likes of Rash and Jadon around me and with Chilly and Trent putting in balls and Mason and Ox creating space with their forward runs, it is about getting in the right position and the balls will come.”

Kane is now on 31 international goals, with Michael Owen on 40 goals for his country next in his sights.
