Harry Kane's secret transfer meeting amid Kylian Mbappe swap deal proposal

Harry Kane’s representatives held a meeting with Paris Saint-Germain transfer chiefs last month before Kylian Mbappe confirmed he would not renew his contract in the French capital.

Kane, 29, is out of contract at Tottenham next summer and this summer is the last opportunity Spurs have to cash-in on the striker before risking him leaving as a free agent. They are likely to resist any offers for their star striker but the club’s preference would be to sell him to a club outside of England and not to a direct rival.

The England international is on Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag’s target list this summer as he is on red alert to sign a central striker at Old Trafford. United are desperate to sign an elite central striker and Ten Hag believed Kane’s contractual situation will mean that a deal is possible.

However, it is increasingly felt that a move is not possible due to Tottenham’s unwillingness to sell to a Premier League rival, and they would rather allow him to leave as a free agent at the end of the current campaign.

Real Madrid desperately need attacking reinforcements this summer. Karim Benzema confirmed his exit from the Spanish giants last week while Eden Hazard, Marco Asensio and Mariano Diaz – the latter of whom was the only recognised central striker in Madrid’s senior squad – are all departing as free agents this summer.

At a key transfer meeting recently, Ancelotti made it clear to club president Florentino Perez and Real Madrid's general manager Jose Angel Sanchez, who is primarily tasked with concluding transfers, Ancelotti made it clear he wanted Kane as his number one target.

However, Mbappe’s intentions of leaving the Parc des Princes and not renewing his contract beyond this summer means that PSG will look to sell their striker this summer, rather than risk the possibility of the France international leaving as a free agent next summer.

That would eliminate the possibility of Kane going to the Spanish capital and instead significantly increase PSG’s interest in the striker. The 29-year-old’s entourage met with PSG transfer chief Luis Campos last month, as per Foot Mercato, to hold an informal conversation over his future.

There is a strong relationship between PSG chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi and his Spurs counterpart Levy. The two met in London earlier this year to discuss potential investment into the North London club, but the two are respectful of each other’s positions.

PSG are targeting several attacking arrivals this summer with Lionel Messi and Hugo Ekitike having departed, Neymar available for sale and Mbappe’s future now deeply uncertain.
