Harry Kane reveals what he told Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood after Iceland controversy

England captain Harry Kane said he sent a text message to Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood after they were sent home from international duty.

Manchester United’s Greenwood and Manchester City’s Foden hit the headlines at the start of the week as they flouted coronavirus guidelines.

Gareth Southgate ordered the duo return to Manchester having breached isolation guidelines – after both played in a 1-0 win against Iceland.

Tottenham Hotspur star Kane, who captained the Three Lions to a goalless draw away to Denmark on Tuesday evening, said the pair need to learn from a “big mistake”.

“As a senior player it’s something you have to do (speak to them),” Kane said.

“The two lads have made a mistake and have to learn from it. There is a lot of responsibility playing for England and they have to learn from it.

“At the end of the day, the boys have made a big mistake.

“I’m sure they would take it back if they could but I’m a believer you have to move on and learn from adversity.”

The Spurs striker also said he messaged both Foden and Greenwood after they had been sent home.

“I’ve texted them both and some of the other boys have too,” Kane said. “I wanted them to know they are not alone.”
