Conte and his players held a key meeting ahead of the Fulham clash
(Picture: Getty Images)Harry Kane has revealed the Tottenham players held a meeting with Antonio Conte ahead of their win over Fulham to discuss how best to get their season back on track.
Defeats to Arsenal and then Manchester City, having been two goals up after 45 minutes at the Etihad, had piled further pressure on Conte and raised more questions about his future at the club.
Reports in Italy suggest he is likely to leave at the end of the season, but Spurs put that to one side to pick up a morale-boosting 1-0 win at Craven Cottage, with Kane’s first-half strike enough for victory.
It moves Tottenham to within three points of Newcastle and Manchester United in the top four, though they have played a game more than those two sides.
Conte punched the air as he celebrated passionately in front of the away fans after the match, his reaction likely one largely of relief after his side put a terrible week behind them.
The Spurs boss has spoken about how the deaths of Gian Piero Ventrone, Sinisa Mihajlovic and Gianluca Vialli have put his life into perspective, and made him reflect on being away from his family in Italy.
Speaking after the match, Kane said it was up to the whole squad to support their manager, and as a group to find solutions to the current problems.
“He’s been through a difficult time outside of football with his personal life,” Kane told Sky Sports.
“Being part of a team, it’s not just the players on the pitch. It’s the manager, the staff and being there for each other.
“We want to win every game for him, he puts so much passion and effort into every game and every training session. We want to repay him with victories.
“We had a good meeting amongst ourselves with the manager in the week, just to talk amongst ourselves to get back to what we’re good at.
“We’re going to keep fighting. The manager’s a fighter, he’s a really passionate manager. We’ve got to keep working hard for him.”
