Harry Kane makes Premier League title race prediction as Tottenham aim to copy Man City

Harry Kane says his Tottenham side are capable of beating Manchester City to the Premier League title this season.

Spurs finished 27 points behind City last season in fourth, but were within touching distance for much of the campaign. Mauricio Pochettino's men also made it to the Champions League final after beating City in the quarter-finals.

And Kane says Spurs will use that disappointment to motivate them this season, where they are confident of improving to challenge City and Liverpool for the title.

He said: "Of course, we know it’ll be tough because the teams around us in the Premier League and Champions League are so good.

"The fact that we got to the final in the Champions League last year will only give us confidence in the Premier League, because we know we can beat the big teams.

“We’ve got to use [our doubters] as motivation. Of course people will look at Man City and Liverpool after the seasons they had to go and do that again but as we know in the Premier League it’s not always that easy.”

Kane was referring to City and Liverpool registering the second and third highest Premier League points totals last season - with City earning the highest the year before - but the Spurs captain said they won't repeat the same standard this season.

To do that, the England talisman wants Spurs to take a leaf out of City's book and show improvement year on year.

"You’ve seen over the years the winners’ points [total] has been different and it varies from year-to-year," he said. "We’ve got to believe and use it as motivation that people don’t believe in us.

“That’s what I’ve done on a personal note my whole career. You have to use that to your advantage. As a team that’s what we’ve got to try to do.

"City have done that now for two years. Every team at this stage is trying to build, get better, have big aspirations for the season.

“No-one knows until past Christmas and we’ll go for there. Liverpool and City are going to want to do it again and it’s down to us, and the rest of the teams, to try to win more games than we did last year.”
