Tottenham have confirmed that Harry Kane will be out until early March after suffering ligament damage to his left ankle in the club’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.
Kane had to be helped off the pitch by medical staff at full-time after sustaining the injury in a tackle with Phil Jones during the closing stages of the match.
England’s captain was treated immediately after the match and Spurs have now confirmed initial fears that they may be without their talisman for as many as 10 games, including the second-leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final vs Chelsea, the first leg of the Champions League last 16 clash vs Borussia Dortmund and the north London derby vs Arsenal on March 2.
A statement released by Tottenham on Tuesday afternoon read:
“Following preliminary assessments, we can confirm that Harry Kane has damaged ligaments in his left ankle, sustained during Sunday’s match against Manchester United.
“The striker will continue to be monitored by our medical staff as he commences rehabilitation and is expected to return to training in early March.”
