Harry Kane injury: Mauricio Pochettino fears Tottenham star may miss rest of season

Mauricio Pochettino fears Harry Kane may have played his last game for Tottenham this season after suffering an ankle injury during Tuesday's 1-0 Champions League win over Manchester City.

While Heung-min Son's late goal eventually won the game, Tottenham's long-term hopes of a successful campaign were hit just before the hour with a sight that has become all too familiar in recent times - Kane going off with an ankle injury.

Just six weeks after coming back from a similar problem, he twisted his ankle in a challenge with Fabian Delph and immediately went down the tunnel, unable to put any weight on it and meaning he is potentially unlikely to reappear again this season.

It is his third such injury in 13 months and now Spurs will be waiting to find out whether he will be back in time to help not only Champions League progression this season, but also qualification for next year.

Following the match, Pochettino said of Kane: "It's very, very sad. It's going to be tough and we're going to miss him - maybe for the rest of the season."

The Spurs coach followed up with beIN Sports by adding: "[It's] bad news.

"He twisted his ankle, the same ankle and I hope it's not the same. But it looks similar. It's very, very sad. We need to check in the next few days."
