Harry Kane heaps praise on team-mates after scoring brace in England's quarter-final triumph

Harry Kane has heaped praise on his England team-mates for doing the Italian job after England beat Ukraine 4-0 in Rome on Saturday evening.

The Three Lions swept aside their quarter-final opponents, with Kane scoring twice along with second-half goals from Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson.

The result for Gareth Southgate’s side puts them in the final four of Euro 2020, with a semi-final against Denmark on Wednesday back at Wembley looming.

It follows England’s semi-final finish at the 2018 World Cup and has a landmark night for the national team as they reached the penultimate stage of the European Champions for the first time in 25 years.

Speaking to BBC Sport post-match, captain Kane was asked if he was on top of the world, replying: "Absolutely. What a great performance in a big, big game.

“There was a lot of pressure on us of course, we were favourites to win this game, there was a lot of pressure on us.

"So to perform like we did was top drawer. Another clean sheet, four goals, it was the perfect night for us."

The victory continued the Three Lions’ record of not yet conceding a goal at the tournament in their five games, something the striker is delighted with, but he knows bigger things lay ahead.

"That’s what we’re building on, we’re not getting carried away," the 27-year-old explained.

"We’ve got a great unit working from front to back, working hard for the team.

"It’s a vital part of winning games and winning tournaments.

"Of course, we’ve got a big semi-final coming up but we’re on the right path.

"We’ll work hard, recover well and then look forward to the semi-final."

Three years ago in Russia, Kane endured heartache as England lost to Croatia in a semi-final, and wants to go one better next time out against the Danes.

Will Kane win another tournament golden boot? Comment below.

"It’s where we want to be," he said of the semi-finals.

"We set out for a vision before the world cup of what we wanted to achieve and where we want to go and take this team.

"We’re knocking it off step by step. Of course, the World Cup was great but we fell short.

"We had the Nations League and a good run there and now another semi-final but now it’s about getting over the line, getting over the next step on Wednesday."

So what’s changed between then and now?

"More experience," Kane revealed.

"A lot of us in the biggest of games for our clubs, Champions League, semi-finals, Premier League title races.

"So we’re looking confident out there and hopefully we can continue that.

"The job isn’t done yet, we’ve got a lot more football to play but like I said we’re on the right track."

On the topic of grabbing his third goal of the tournament, Kane added: "Yeah it’s always nice as a striker to score early in the game.

"It’s always a great feeling helping your team.

"There’s been a lot of talk around me and my performances but like I said I’m ready for the next game, help this team to go to a European final."
