Harry Kane hails Tottenham team-mates after breaking north London derby record

Harry Kane scored his 250th goal for club and country on Sunday as Tottenham Hotspur beat Arsenal to go top of the Premier League, but the striker credited the entire team’s work ethic for a strong run of results.

Spurs are unbeaten in eight in all competitions and have gone 10 without defeat in the league since the opening day of the season.

A 2-0 win over their local rivals was played out in front of 2,000 supporters and Kane said the points were the absolute aim of the team on the day, after a performance which was attack-minded and clinical in the first half, but more concentrated and defensively solid after the break.

The striker, who broke the record for most goals in the history of the north London derby, again linked with up forward partner Son Heung-min for both finishes, assisting and netting one each, and the England captain feels they are at their peak right now.

“It’s nice [to break the derby record], obviously a great assist from Sonny. It was nice to see it go in but the most important was three points,” Kane said on Sky Sports.

“We’re feeling good, we’re at an age where we are in our prime, understanding the game and each other. When he cuts in and whips it top bins it’s an easy game for me!”

The win put Spurs back above Chelsea after the Blues won on Saturday, while reigning champions Liverpool can join Spurs on 24 points if they beat Wolves in the hours following Tottenham’s win.

Kane said that after a tough run, another big result was testament to the togetherness of the Spurs squad and everybody being willing to pitch in.

“We played well first half, the second was a grind, we dug deep but they didn’t create too much clear-cut.

“It’s a season where we’re all pulling in the right direction, everyone on the pitch is willing to attack, defend, do whatever it takes. I’m happy to do it, happy to win games and that’s the most important thing.”
