Harry Kane gives honest verdict on Tottenham's performance after Olympiacos showing

Harry Kane has honestly admitted Tottenham's performances must improve after a disappointing 2-2 draw with Olympiacos.

Spurs led 2-0 heading into half-time thanks to Kane's penalty which was followed up by a Lucas Moura strike four minutes later.

However, they conceded just before half-time as the hosts reduced the arrears before Mathieu Valbuena levelled things up with a spot-kick of their own in the second half.

Tottenham were rocked by the hosts' equaliser and offered very little in what can only be described as a below par display.

Having lost their opening Champions League group game on each of the last two seasons, Spurs are only too aware of how important a strong start can be.

Last season, Spurs took only one point from their first three group games last season and needed a minor miracle to qualify for the round of 16.

While they were lucky on that occasion, Kane admitted Tottenham's performances will have to improve if they're to be successful this time around.

Champions League 2019/20 group stage draw

Speaking to BT Sport after the draw, he said: "I think so [we have made it difficult for ourselves]. We wanted to get off to a winning start and put ourselves in a great position.

"As we know, last season we didn’t start too well and we really had to play catch up but we’ve definitely got the resilience in the squad to do that. It’s only the first game so we’re definitely backing ourselves to still get through but we know we’ve got a lot of improving to do."

"Obviously, when we go 2-0 up after 30 minutes it puts us in a great position," the England captain added.

"After that, I thought we controlled the game. Before that, I don’t think we played too well but we scored two goals and we got ourselves right up there.

"Conceding the goal before half-time really changed the momentum. That’s disappointing from our point of view and the second half was kind of 50/50.

"I still feel we should have done better on the ball but it’s a point away from home that we have to try to improve on."
