Harry Kane forced off with ankle injury in Tottenham vs Man City

Tottenham's Champions League and Premier League hopes suffered a major blow as Harry Kane limped out of their quarter-final clash with Manchester City on Tuesday night.

The England striker immediately hobbled straight down the tunnel, aided by two members of Spurs' staff, following a channel on the touchline by City's Fabian Delph.

Kane was unable to put weight on his left ankle - the same one he injured against Manchester United back in January.

That particular injury ruled the Spurs hitman out for just over a month.

Kane had attempted to block a Delph pass when he was caught on the follow through by his international team-mate.

Lucas Moura came on to replace the striker, with the game finely poised at 0-0.

"It's a massive blow for Spurs," said Chris Sutton on BBC radio 5 Live.

"It's the way he lands on his left foot, he makes the challenge and then his ankle rocks, which might suggest it is ligament damage."

BT Sport pundit Jermaine Jenas added: "That looks like the left ankle issue Harry Kane has been struggling with for his whole career. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't play again this season.

"A lot of responsibility is going to be on Lucas Moura's shoulders now for the rest of the season. Can he get the goals Spurs need?"

Raheem Sterling's PFA Player of the Year vote revealed

Kane has netted 17 times in the Premier League this season and is a huge player for Tottenham, who are in contention to finish in the top four.

But his injury, which appeared serious, could rule him out for the rest of the season and put an end to his Golden Boot aspirations.
