Harry Kane finally responds to Bayern Munich links after "dream" transfer admission

Harry Kane says he is fully focused on Tottenham, despite acknowledging the concrete transfer interest from “top, top club” Bayern Munich.

Kane has made a strong start to the season with Spurs, contributing eight goals and one assist in nine Premier League matches so far. He is yet to get off the mark in the Champions League, however, and will hope to change that fact when Tottenham host Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday night.

Ahead of the game in a pre-match press conference Kane was asked directly about his future at Spurs amid interest from Bayern. The German giants have been open about their interest in signing Kane, with Bayern chief executive Oliver Kahn going on the record about him earlier this year.

“He's under contract with Tottenham,” Khan told Bild in July. “Sure, an absolute top striker, but that's all a dream of the future.” That possibility is not something Kane is currently thinking about, with his current Spurs deal running until June 2024.

"I’m focused on Tottenham Hotspur and trying to do my best for us,” Kane said when asked about Bayern. "For sure, Bayern are a top, top club, but all my concentration is on Tottenham and trying to win tomorrow night."

There has been repeated speculation about Kane’s future at Spurs since his proposed £100million transfer to Manchester City in the summer of 2021 collapsed. But Antonio Conte’s arrival as manager and the club’s investment in the summer transfer window prompted reports that Kane could extend his Spurs contract.

That has yet to come to pass – and Tottenham’s progression in the Champions League could hold the key to Kane’s decision. Spurs are third in the Premier League, but have struggled on European nights recently, slipping to a 2-0 defeat against Sporting Lisbon before being held 0-0 by Frankfurt last time out.

Wednesday night’s game is a big one for Conte’s side, with Spurs and Frankfurt currently level on four points – two behind group leaders Sporting. Kane is determined to get off the mark in the Champions League personally and fire his team to a much-needed win.

"It’s a big stage in the group with two home games coming up," the 29-year-old said. "We spoke about how important it is to win and really put our stamp on this group.

"Of course, from a personal point of view, I want to score in every game and I’ll be trying my best to do that to help the team. It’s been a few games in the group that I have been disappointed not to get on the scoresheet, so I’m hoping to turn that around tomorrow night."

Dejan Kulusevski has returned to training after suffering a hamstring injury but remains a doubt. Richarlison could start after beginning the 1-0 win over Brighton on the substitutes’ bench, with Conte switching to a five-man midfield.
