Harry Kane excited about Steven Bergwijn link-up and says top four spot for Tottenham is a must

Harry Kane is excited about playing alongside Tottenham Hotspur's January signings Steven Bergwijn and Gedson Fernandes and wants the club to clamber back into a top four spot in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old is back in training with his team-mates and will resume full training with the group on Monday for the first time since he suffered a hamstring injury in January.

Kane believes he will be a better player when he returns to the Premier League next month than before his injury on New Year's Day.

Alasdair Gold's Facebook Live Tottenham Q&A

"It has been a funny few months or so having to adapt to the situation, it is great to be back out with the lads, just to feel that team building and get back and competing a little bit more," he told the club's YouTube channel.

" From the hamstring point of view it is great to be able to give it a bit more rest. I have not played a game for six months now, it has been a long, long time.

"From an injury point of view I'm normal, I'm fully fit. It will take a while to get back to the team training and feeling that again because I haven't done that for six months or so. I am feeling food, I am feeling sharp.

"It has been good to do some individual training, a bit of finishing, a lot of individual drills to work on my game and improve. I am at a stage where I am looking forward to getting some games and hopefully I'll be back playing before too long."

The England captain admits having half a year away from the game has not been the rest people might have thought.

"It is a good shock to the system. It has been very intense," he said. " I have picked up a few injuries here and there, sometimes people think injuries is the time to rest but it is almost when you're injured you work harder than before you were injured.

"It is the first time that I have been able to take my time, re-focus and work on some individual stuff. I have really enjoyed it. Hopefully I'll be back in a better place before I was injured and look forward to a busy year."

Kane is yet to take to the pitch with Bergwijn and Gedson, who were signed after his injury from PSV Eindhoven and Benfica respectively.

"I got injured on January 1 so I haven't seen too much of Gedson or Stevie, playing with or getting that connection," he said.

"I have been watching them play, it has been long enough without a game, especially when you have got top players who are new to the club and you want to be on the pitch with them.

"I am looking forward to it, I am looking forward to it, the squad is looking good, everyone is fully fit and ready to go. We will be working hard between now and the first game and hopefully we can finish strong in the last nine games."

The Premier League is set to return on June 17 with Tottenham getting back to action in the first weekend, with nine matches yet to play, including some of those teams around them such as Manchester United, Sheffield United and Leicester City.

Kane believes Tottenham must win the majority of those matches to get back into the Champions League spots.

"We have got to finish in the top four, there is no doubt about that," he said.

"We have got a massive game against Manchester United in the first game and realistically we are going to have to win seven or eight to get into the Champions League.

"That has got to be our aim. Of course we want to win every game but we have got to make sure we finish strong if we want to be playing Champions League football next season."

The Spurs striker also spoke about what life with the Kanes has involved during lockdown.

"We have been able to spend some good quality time together," he explained. "Every morning I wake up my eldest girl always asks me if I am going to work or not, she is enjoying spending time with me, it is nice.

"We don't always get the time, in the prime of our careers we are always full on every week of the year. It is nice, we have been training here for a couple of weeks now Monday to Friday and have had weekends at home.

"I am enjoying it. I have spent some good time with my wife Kate and I am making the most of it."
