Harry Kane says he has no desire to return to Arsenal after the Tottenham striker was questioned about a picture of him wearing a Gunners shirt as a youngster.
Kane was interviewed by Piers Morgan on ITV's Good Morning Britain on Tuesday and the Arsenal fan tried to grill the forward over a famous photo which shows him sporting the colours of his club’s bitter rivals as a 10-year-old. But Kane did not rise to the presenter’s jibe, explaining the origin of a picture which has seen some question his connection to Spurs.
“Well, I played for Arsenal when I was younger and unfortunately for them they let me go,” he replied to Morgan.
“I’ve been at Tottenham since I was 11 years old and I’m reaping the rewards of that now.”
The picture in question shows Kane, with hair dyed red like Arsenal legend Freddie Ljungberg, celebrating the Gunners’ Premier League title win of 2004.
Asked by Morgan if he was itching to go back to his roots, Kane shot back: “Absolutely not, no. We’re in a good spot at the moment, so I’m happy.”
Kane, who is currently away on international duty with England, has enjoyed a fantastic start to the 2020/21 season.
The 27-year-old has scored eight goals and registered nine assists in eight Premier League games this season, helping Spurs to second in the table. Jose Mourinho’s side have won 17 points and are unbeaten in the league since their 1-0 defeat by Everton on the opening day of the campaign.
Kane could feature for England in their final Nations League group game against Iceland on Wednesday, before returning to Spurs, who host Manchester City on Saturday.
