Harry Kane calls for improvement against Chelsea as Tottenham lose key duo to injury

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest for Friday, September 17.

Injury problems

Tottenham played out a 2-2 draw in their Europa Conference League opener against French outfit Rennes, with Rennes' defender Loic Bade scoring an own goal and Danish international Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg netting the second.

However, Spurs were dealt two huge injury blows as both Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura limped off.

Bergwijn was taken off for the aforementioned Hojbjerg in the first half after suffering what appeared to be an ankle problem whilst Moura was on the receiving end of a hefty tackle that eventually forced him off after he initially had tried to carry on.

It leaves manager Nuno Espirito Santo with a plethora of injury woes as Heung-Min Son and Eric Dier both missed the trip to France through respective fitness issues.

Ndombele hope

Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle has told midfielder Tanguy Ndombele how he can fight his way into Espirito Santo's starting lineup in the coming weeks.

"At the moment, I don’t know. I like him," the former Tottenham midfielder said on BT Sport.

"There’s a player in there, but how long is it going to take for him to understand the game week in and week out?

"It’s almost like he wants to be back in the playground as a youngster, toying with another player.

"Football is about end product and when you’re a midfield player you have got to provide and you’ve got to be a creator if you’re not an out-and-out goalscorer.

"You’ve got to play positive and you’ve got to feed people. When he does that sort of thing, he’s different class."

Kane verdict

Spurs talisman Harry Kane gave his verdict on social media after the full-time whistle.

"Very proud to have made the most European appearances in Spurs' club history", his Tweet read.

"Tough game and loads to improve on for the weekend."

Kane will hope to return to goalscoring form on Sunday as the Lillywhites host London rivals Chelsea.
