Harry Kane breaks Tottenham players' silence after Jose Mourinho is sacked by Daniel Levy

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has become the first player within Spurs' first-team squad to break their silence on Jose Mourinho's sacking.

The Portuguese chief was axed by chairman Daniel Levy on Monday morning following a recent run of disappointing results, concluding with Friday evening's 2-2 draw with Everton at Goodison Park.

Despite reports in some parts claiming that Mourinho had been sacked by Spurs over differences concerning the European Super League plan that was announced last night, Mourinho's exit is based on results on the pitch and those alone.

Just three hours on from when his exit was announced by Spurs, Kane has become the first member of the Tottenham squad to break their silence, taking to social media to thank Mourinho for his time and efforts at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In a Twitter post, Kane said: "Thank you for everything, Boss. A pleasure to have worked together. I wish you all the best for your next chapter."

Kane was a key figure during Mourinho's spell in north London, taking his game to a whole new level since the Portuguese chief's arrival in November 2019.

However, despite Kane once again proving menacing in front of goal this season, results, certainly since Christmas, have not been good enough for a club of Spurs' stature.

With just six games of the Premier League season remaining, Spurs are seventh in the table, five points shy of the top-four.

Former midfielder Ryan Mason has been placed in temporary charge and a long-term successor for Mourinho is expected to be appointed ahead of the start of next season.

In a statement, Spurs chairman Levy said: "Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a Club. Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic.

"On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged. He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution."

Life without Mourinho will begin on Wednesday evening when Spurs face Southampton in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
