Harry Kane and Son claim made as Serge Aurier highlights Tottenham improvement under Mourinho

Here is your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest for Tuesday, December 1.

Owen makes bold Kane and Son claim

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have scored seven and nine Premier League goals respectively so far this season, but Michael Owen believes they may be frustrated by Jose Mourinho’s tactics at Tottenham.

The duo have linked up exceptionally well so far this season – Kane also has nine assists, the majority of which have been for Son, while only Liverpool and Chelsea have scored more in total.

But former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Owen believes they would prefer a more front-foot approach in occasions such as Sunday’s clash with Chelsea, whereby Tottenham registered just one shot on target.

Jose Mourinho admits he's 'sad' Tottenham couldn't find winner at Chelsea

“There are top players like Harry Kane and Son, in particular,” Owen told Premier League TV. “Would I like playing as a centre-forward in that game today for Tottenham? I’d be thinking I prefer the way [Mauricio] Pochettino used to play.

“They trusted us, we went head-to-head with these teams, we might lose 3-2 or we might win 4-2. Whatever the score but he trusted us.

“If I play for Jose Mourinho, I’d be thinking does he trust us to go head-to-head with these big teams because every time we play anyone decent all we do is sit back.”

Here’s what he said in full.

Aurier’s turnaround at Tottenham testament to Mourinho’s coaching

It looked as though Serge Aurier’s days at Tottenham were numbered amid frequent transfer rumours linking him with a move away last summer.

But he’s been an important player for Mourinho this season and been dependable during the recent absence of summer signing Matt Doherty.

The Ivory Coast international has often been criticised for his lack of positional awareness and tendency to make rash decisions, but he put in disciplined defensive displays as Tottenham kept back-to-back clean sheets against Manchester City and Chelsea.

Earlier in the campaign, he showed what he can offer going forward, scoring and assisting in his first Premier League start of the season in the 6-1 thrashing of Manchester United.

Tottenham fans react to historic FA Cup draw

Tottenham have been drawn away to the lowest-ranked side in the FA Cup with a trip away to Marine FC, prompting several excellent responses on social media.

The Merseyside-based outfit competes in the Northern Premier League Division One North West and have upset the odds to make it into the third round after beating fellow non-league outfit Havant & Waterlooville with a dramatic 120th-minute winner.

Marine have made it past seven opponents to set up the glamour tie against Mourinho’s men, who currently sit atop the Premier League table.

There has never been a bigger gap between two sides in FA Cup history, with the non-league outfit 168 places below Spurs in the football pyramid.

“That’s what you call the magic of the cup!” was a common thread from Spurs fans on Twitter, while there were some tongue-in-cheek predictions of the quadruple.
