Harry Kane and Daniel Levy at loggerheads as contrasting opinions pose Man Utd problem

Harry Kane will need to convince Daniel Levy to let him leave Tottenham for Manchester United this summer, with the Spurs chairman refusing to sell his star man to a Premier League club.

United return to the Champions League next season and are believed to have made Kane their number one priority as their search for a new striker continues. Erik ten Hag has outlined his need for a striker in the summer window, with Antony Martial and Wout Weghorst both reported to be on their way out of Old Trafford.

Kane's contract at Spurs expires next summer, meaning that this transfer window will be the last before the England captain is free to negotiate with other clubs. However, the stubbornness of Daniel Levy to not sell Kane to another direct Premier League competitor could prove the biggest stumbling block in a potential transfer, with the England captain valued at £100million.

The Evening Standard report that Kane will only be sold if a foreign club makes a suitable offer, with Levy adamant he will not let his star man leave for a Premier League rival. Levy's stance could prove costly, with Spurs risking losing their greatest ever goalscorer and prized asset for free next summer should he not sign a new contract at the club.

After hitting an impressive 30 goals this season, Kane has scored 213 Premier League goals in his career - just 47 shy of Alan Shearer's all-time record of 260 goals. If Kane continues at his current goalscoring rate, he will become the league's all-time top scorer within the next two seasons.

The Sun report that Kane is adamant he will only move to a Premier League club, despite thoughts Real Madrid would be keen on a deal should they lose Karim Benzema to Saudi Arabia. However, Levy's stance creates a likely stand-off, with both individuals wanting contrasting outcomes for the player's future.

Levy is renowned for being a stubborn negotiator, with former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson once referring to dealings with the Spurs chief as being 'more painful than my hip replacement'.

Speaking at the Cambridge Union, Levy outlined his transfer stance in March, with his comments directly applicable to Kane's current predicament. he said: "I don’t consider myself a special negotiator or anything like that, I’m just acting in the best interests of my club. I think when it comes to the transfer it depends on the balance of power.

"If you have a player who you really don’t want to sell then you have every right to say no, you own the registration. It depends also on the character of the player, whether you feel at the end you can keep the player because we’re operating in a team sport, it’s very important that we keep the team together. Every circumstance is different."
