Harry Kane insists Tottenham simply must secure a top four finish this season amid doubts over his long-term future at the club.
Spurs are seven points off the Champions League places but can haul themselves right back into the battle if they beat Manchester United in their first game following the Premier League restart which is scheduled to fall between June 19-22.
Kane raised the possibility of leaving Spurs back in March during the league’s shutdown, when he admitted he would have to move on if he could not fulfil his ambition of winning trophies in north London.
Having recovered from a hamstring injury that would have likely seen him miss most of Tottenham’s season run-in in normal circumstances, the England international could now have a key role, admitting Spurs might need seven or eight wins from their remaining nine games to secure Champions League football.
He told Tottenham’s official YouTube channel: “We have got to finish in the top four, there is no doubt about that.
“We have got a massive game against Man United in the first game and realistically we are going to have to win seven or eight to get into the Champions League. That has got to be our aim.
“Of course we want to win every game but we have got to make sure we finish strong if we want to be playing Champions League football next season.”
Kane has been linked with a summer move to Manchester United, though Standard Sport understands Spurs have no intention of selling, particularly not to a Premier League rival.
