‘Harry hurt his grandfather deeply’: Prince Harry accused of hypocrisy for dragging late Prince Philip into PR stunt

Prince Harry’s secret tribute to his grandfather, Prince Philip, last week has been branded as an act of a hypocrite by a royal source who claims the Prince’s tribute was an attempt to “hijack” the Remembrance Day celebrations.

Last week Harry arranged for the touching tribute, including a wreath and a letter to be left at a war memorial in Staffordshire after King Charles and Queen Camilla had departed. The timing was intentional, so as not to distract from the commemorations. Harry even went as far as arranging for a friend of his to deliver the tribute in his place.

Despite trying not to attract attention, the prince has still found himself being accused of trying to steal the spotlight. Royal insiders also pointed out that Harry did not have the best relationship with Philip towards the end of his life. They claimed that the tribute was simply “hypocrisy” on Harry’s part.

Royal insiders are skeptical of Prince Harry and his tribute

According to reports, people who knew Prince Philip have remained somewhat skeptical about Harry’s motivation for leaving the tribute. One source in particular put the Duke of Sussex on blast, claiming that he “hurt” his grandfather after stepping away from his royal duties and moving to the States with his wife, Meghan Markle.

“What hypocrisy. Harry hurt his grandfather deeply during the final year of his life.” The unnamed source said of Harry’s tribute last week.

While Philip was one of the few royals to perhaps be a little more understanding of Harry’s desire to do things his own way, some of the Duke of Sussex’s actions likely cut his ailing grandfather deep. Mere weeks before the Duke of Edinburgh passed away, Harry and Meghan gave their now-infamous Oprah interview. During their conversation with the talk show host, the Sussexes made many revelations about royal life as well as some rather damning accusations against the family.

When asked about his thoughts on the interview, Philip suggested he wasn’t pleased with Harry and Meghan talking about such personal matters so publicly. He said, “Give TV interviews by all means, but don’t talk about yourself.”

Is this another attempt to grab headlines?

Prince Harry and Philip’s relationship seemed to have deteriorated back in 2021, which has led to some speculation over whether the prince’s recent tribute had ulterior motives. The Daily Mail’s Richard Eden claimed that the movie was “striking,” citing another source who claimed that the fact Harry was able to “hijack” the remembrance service has caused “unease at the palace.”

In his letter, Harry spoke of the important role his grandfather played in the Second World War as he served in the Pacific campaign. Meanwhile, King Charles made no mention of his father in his speech at the VJ Day commemorations.
