Harry Hill reveals he was asked to work at NHS nightingale during height of pandemic

Doctor turned comedian Harry Hill has revealed the 'scary' moment he was asked to come out of retirement to work at an NHS Nightingale hospital.

The 55-year-old was speaking to Andi Peters on Lorraine and explained how he was close to being called out of retirement to help out the NHS during the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

The video above shows the moment Harry told Andi "it was scary" when he was asked to "start on Monday" at the ExCel Nightingale in London:

"I was kept on the register as retired.

"When they had this whole 'Call Back to Work' thing, I got an e-mail from the GMC saying, 'Someone's going to call you up about your return to work'.

"So, it ended up with me having a face time call with a lady saying, 'Could you start work at the Nightingale ExCel Hospital on Monday?'"

Nervously laughing, Harry added: "So, yeah. It was a bit scary actually."

Switching back into his career as one of the nations best known comedians, Harry said: "Well, I thought if you were ill, the last thing you want is Harry Hill leaning over you when you come round."

Andi responded with: "Oh absolutely, I would be like 'Have I won £250 for being in a clip or something?", referring to Harry's long running stint as presenter of 'You've Been Framed'.

In an interview with the Radio Times, Harry revealed he was never asked to start as a doctor at the Nightingale following his call.

He was asked if he could start work as a 'Track and Trace' call handler at a later date, but the job never came to fruition.

Lorraine returns at 9am every weekday morning.
