Harry Cornick lays out his Bristol City mission statement after signing from Luton Town

New Bristol City forward Harry Cornick has promised to bring the entertainment factor to Ashton Gate after completing his move from Luton Town with the 27-year-old confirmed right on the 11pm transfer deadline.

As first reported by Bristol Live last week, City decided to bring their plans to sign Cornick in the summer forward following the sale of Antoine Semenyo to Bournemouth and Nigel Pearson’s desire to bring in another attacking player.

With Cornick out of contract at the end of the season, City successfully negotiated a low six-figure fee with the Hatters and beat off late competition from Championship rivals Swansea City to bring Cornick to BS3.

The right-sided forward was unveiled on the Ashton Gate roof and will be in contention to make his debut, along with fellow deadline day arrival Anis Mehmeti, against Preston North End on Saturday.

“I’m excited to get going. It’s been a whirlwind few days and the last 24 hours has been a bit crazy - I can’t wait to get started,” Cornick said. “It’s a great training facility - there is no excuse for this club not to kick on.

"I hope to bring a bit of enjoyment and fun - I want to get the fans out of their seats, score a few goals and help take this club to where it should be.

“I’ve spoken to the gaffer and the people around the place, and everyone has got high ambition, drive and determination to get this club to where I believe it should be and that’s in the Premier League.

“I’ve signed a long deal to try and do that and see how fast we can progress as a club.”

Cornick will wear the No9 shirt, available following the cancellation of Chris Martin's contract with the veteran striker then joining Gillingham on a free transfer.

He possesses significant experience in the Championship, having risen through the divisions with Luton Town scoring 38 goals in 234 appearances for the Hatters, 146 of them have been in the second tier with 23 goals and 17 assists.

He’s not been a regular starter this season due to injury and the departure of manager Nathan Jones to Southampton. But did find the target and provide an assist in the 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic 10 days ago.

The 27-year-old’s arrival concludes City’s business into the club in January with the Robins successfully mitigating the sale of Semenyo and the injury to Tommy Conway with two new forwards in Cornick and Mehmeti.

Pearson also wanted to add another centre-back to his squad but found their attempts to loan Jake O’Brien thwarted by Crystal Palace who wanted a higher loan fee for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international.

City were also unable to bring in Jack Currie from AFC Wimbledon after four bids were turned down and the League Two club altered terms of the agreement, meaning Jay Dasilva will remain a Robin until the expiry of his contract in the summer.
