Harry and Meghan sign major new Netflix deal for undisclosed sum

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex appear to be following in the footsteps of the Obamas by signing a new multi-year contract with Netflix.

The couple moved to Los Angeles earlier this year after stepping down as senior royals and are now cementing a new life in California with the creative deal.

According to the New York Times, the Sussexes have founded an unnamed production company and plan to make documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming for the streaming platform.

“Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope. As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us” a statement released by the couple read.

“Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.

“As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens.”

This isn’t Meghan’s first move to re-enter the creative industry she called home for over seven years. Earlier this year she lent her voice to narrate a Disney+ documentary about elephants.

While Meghan and Harry are expected to appear in some of the documentaries their production company makes, Meghan has previously stressed that she would not be returning to acting.

With Netflix’s 193 million subscribers worldwide, the Sussexes are set to have access to a large platform to promote their charitable causes.

After leaving office Barack and Michelle Obama, who are friendly with the Sussexes, signed a similar deal for an undisclosed sum with the streaming platform.
