Harry and Meghan seen on date after ‘palace snub’

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex enjoyed a date night to celebrate Meghan’s 42nd birthday amid reports the couple have been snubbed from events marking the first anniversary of the death of the Queen.

The couple were spotted out and about in Montecito, California, and pictured leaving upmarket Italian restaurant Tre Lune last night. The spot is favoured by a number of celebrities, with Kourtney Kardashian and Ellen DeGeneres said to be fans.

Meghan, who turns 42 on Friday, and Harry were seen laughing and smiling as they left the restaurant with their friend Matt Cohen, who is married to the Duchess’s friend Heather Dorak. The birthday girl wore a black and white striped dress by Posse, accessorised with the Cult Gaia bag and flat strappy sandals.

The date night came amid claims the Sussexes have not been invited to events marking the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death.

Her Majesty died on September 8 at her home in Balmoral, aged 96. According to the Sun, the couple have not been invited to attend a family gathering to mark the anniversary — despite being in Europe at around the same time. The Duke and Duchess are expected to be in Germany as they launch the Invictus Games in Düsseldorf on September 9.

King Charles and the Queen will reportedly host the Prince and Princess of Wales along with their children George, 10, Charlotte, eight, and Louis, five. Prince Andrew, 63, and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson are also expected to attend. But sources told the Sun “there hasn’t been any outreach” to the Sussexes.

Palace sources on Friday denied that the Royal Family is ‘snubbing’ Harry and Meghan and said the King is not expected to undertake any public engagements during the week of the anniversary of the Queen’s death.

A source close to the couple said that Harry and Meghan would still mark the death of the Duke’s grandmother.

“If they are not included in any of those plans they will find a way to mark the significance in their own way,” they said.

Meghan was expected to celebrate her birthday privately at their Montecito home with her family, including children Archie, four, and Lilibet, two.

Sarah, Duchess of York, has named her reconstructed left breast “Derek” following her cancer diagnosis. She told her podcast: “He’s very important because he saved my life” adding that she was “getting much better”.
