Harry and Meghan must ‘dig deep’ to ‘show grit and determination’ after snub, says expert

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry' must "dig deep" to "show grit and determination" after it was revealed that their Netflix docuseries was brutally snubbed in the nominations for the Primetime Emmy Awards 2023.

Today the Primetime Emmy Awards released the shortlists for the ceremony, which is set to take place in September. The awards have 25 main categories, with more than 100 categories in total.

Shows eligible for the Primetime Emmys must have been broadcast in America between June 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023. Meghan and Harry's docuseries, which is titled Meghan & Harry, dropped onto Netflix around the globe on December 8, 2022.

But despite being seemingly eligible, the couple's docuseries was not shortlisted, which adds to the many blows the former senior royals have been dealt in recent weeks and months. Last month it was reported that the couple's $20 million (£15.5m) Spotify deal came to an end and it was soon said their $98 million (£76.5m) Netflix deal was "hanging in the balance". So this snub has likely left the Duke and Duchess feeling a little somber.

But senior therapist and relationship expert Sally Baker from Working On The Body has given an insight on what the couple are going to need to do in order to "earn their professional stripes" as they move forward.

"Doubters and haters are going to hate and doubt and will use their omission from the Emmy Awards after making the shortlist to further damn Meghan and Harry’s creative work," she exclusively told The Mirror US. Sally went on: "Had they won they’d be accused of being mere shoo-ins."

The expert concluded: "Now they have an opportunity to show grit and determination: dig deep and earn their professional stripes to quiet the dissenters."

But although the couple missed out on an Emmy nomination, they did get nominated for another coveted award. The Duke and Duchess' docuseries has recently been nominated for Best Streaming Nonfiction Series in the Hollywood Critics Awards (HCA).

Going up against a string of other nonfiction series that were promoted on streaming platforms, could the couple be close to victory?

This comes one day after we reported that a new article claims Meghan is being "needier than usual" towards Prince Harry at the moment.
